Project Summary

The Sunio One Chief Architect led the engagement to build a best-in-class Data Operations Capability including competencies, controls, systems and technologies.

The Challenge

The executive leadership made a strategic decision to build a best-in-class data operations competency, with a view to gaining strategic advantage, preparing for the future possibilities of ML and AI, and to leverage the hidden knowledge within current data.

  • Have a clear definition of data, types, places, formats, and relevance.
  • Have a strong control on data quality, data usage, privacy, and security.
  • Leverage common platforms at scale, and specialist platforms to differentiate.
  • Form a common operating model, with protocols, policies, procedures and the associated system supports.
  • Enable a posture to maximise the benefits of Data Science, Machine Learning, and eventually AI.
  • Enable highly informed decision making and well evidenced actions and events.

Our Approach

  • Conduct a top down “Decision-Inform” modelling exercise, connecting all key value centric decisions with the desired information and data that will inform.
  • Conducted Volume, Velocity and Veracity (V3) assessment for decision making models. Define the key data personas and the relevant data needs for each.
  • Conducted data landscape assessment. Identifying residency, age, structure, availability, controls etc.
  • Defined and designed Master Data Catalogues and Master Data Entity Models.
  • Defined Data Governance Standards and controls
  • Conduct current state assessment of Digital, Data and Technology.
  • Identify gaps, pain points, risks, and impediments.
  • Define and design target state for Digital, Data and Technology.
  • Define and design Data Operations.
  • Construct Transformation Roadmaps for Business, Digital and Technology

Results & Impact

  • Roadmaps and transformation that resulted in a fully data centric organisation.
  • Roadmaps enabled significant return on investment via mission realisation.
  • Standardise and scalable data operations, resulting in reduction of cost and increase in quality and velocity of data services.
  • Consolidated IT and Data operations, with significant economy of scale gains.
